The word Veda means knowledge. So every human being interested in advancement of knowledge can take advantage of Vedas. They are not just religious books. They are meant for advancement of knowledge. And the most advanced knowledge of God consciousness or Kṛṣṇa consciousness is mentioned especially for human beings. Because knowledge cannot be perceived by animals because of their imperfect senses. They are not suitable for receiving absolute knowledge. They can understand only elementary knowledge for maintaining the body they have got: where to secure their food, where to sleep, how to have sexual intercourse, and how to defend. These are the only knowledge they can understand.
So human being requires further knowledge. That is special prerogative, gift by God, by nature. Whatever we say. One should utilize this human body for furtherance of knowledge. And the first important knowledge is that we should know that there is life after death. That is the basic principle of knowledge. Unfortunately at the present moment, in no university there is any department of knowledge where this education is given where there is life after death.
